چکیده

The effects of three concentrations (2.5, 5 and 10 microg/ml) of aqueous-ethanolic extract of Z. multiflora bois, 10 nM chlorpheniramine, and saline on histamine (H1) receptors were tested on two groups of guinea pig tracheal chains [trachea incubated with indomethacin (Gr. 1), and indomethacin and propranolol (Gr. 2)]. The effective concentration of histamine causing 50% of maximum response (EC50) obtained in presence of chlorpheniramine in both groups, all concentrations of the extract in group 1 and its two higher concentrations in group 2 were significantly greater than those of saline. The values of concentration ratio minus one (CR-1) obtained in presence of all the three concentrations of the extract in group 1 and 10 microg/ml concentration in group 2 were significantly greater than those of chlorpheniramine. The values of EC50 obtained in presence of all the three concentrations of extract and CR-1 obtained in the presence of 2.5 and 5 microg/ml concentrations in group 2 were lower than group 1. There was not significant difference in maximum response obtained in presence of different concentrations of extract between two groups. There were parallel right ward shift in concentration response curves obtained in presence of all concentrations of the extract in both the groups. These results indicated an inhibitory effect of Z. multiflora at histamine H1 receptors.

Zataria multiflora Boiss and Carvacrol Affect β2-Adrenoceptors of Guinea Pig Trachea

The stimulatory effect of Zataria multiflora Boiss (Labiatae) and carvacrol on β-adrenoceptors was examined on guinea pig trachea. The effects of three concentrations of aqueous-ethanolic extract, carvacrol, and propranolol (β-receptor antagonist) on β-adrenoceptors were tested in nonincubated (group 1, n = 8) and incubated tracheal chains with 1 μM chlorpheniramine (histamine H1 receptor antag...

Antihistaminic Effect of Bunium persicum on Guinea Pig Tracheal Chains

In a previous study, the relaxant and anticholinergic (functional antagonism) effects of Bunium persicum (B. persicum ) have been demonstrated on guinea pig tracheal chains. To elucidate the other mechanisms responsible for this relaxant effect, the inhibitory effect of this plant on histamine H1 receptors was examined in this study. The antihistaminic effects of aqueous and macerated extracts,...

INCREASED HISTAMINE Hi RECEPTOR BLOCKADE BY CHLORPHENIRAMINE IN TRACHEAL CHAINS OF ASTHMATIC GUINEA PIGS

Receptor affinity and drug delivery to the receptor sites could be determinant factors for the increased bronchial responsiveness seen in asthma. Competitive antagonism blockade which is measured as dose ratio-l (DR-I) depends only on these two factors. Therefore, in this study we have examined histamine HI blockade by chlorpheniramine on isolated tracheal chains of asthmatic compared to co...

The Effect of Zataria Multiflora Boiss on ß2- Adrenoceptors of Guinea Pig Tracheal Cahins

The effect of aqueous-ethanolic extract of Zataria multiflora Boiss (Labiatae), on βadrenoceptors was examined on tracheal chains of guinea pigs. The effects of three concentrations of aqueous-ethanolic extract (0.05, 0.1 and 0.2 mg/mL), 10 nM propranolol, and saline on β-adrenoceptors were tested (n=8). The results showed clear leftward shifts in isoprenaline curves obtained in the presence of...
